Trough of LPA, ‘habagat’ to bring rains over parts of PH

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

Several areas in the country will experience scattered rains due to the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and southwest monsoon or “habagat,” a forecaster said Monday.

“Because of the southwest monsoon, cloudy skies and high chances of rains are expected over Mimaropa, Western and Central Visayas, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas,” Obet Badrina of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

He added that the other LPA in the western part of the country continues to move away from PAR.

Badrina, however, said “both LPAs are unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone.”

The trough of LPA outside PAR, however, will cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Masbate.

Moderate to heavy rains may result in flash floods or landslides, according to PAGASA.

Badrina said the rest of the country will experience warm weather at noon, and isolated rains in the afternoon or evening.

Up to 33°C temperature is forecast in Tuguegarao; up to 32°C in Metro Manila, Laoag and Legazpi.

The temperature in Davao will reach 33°C; up to 32°C in Cebu, Tacloban, Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the archipelago, PAGASA said. – gb
