A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit Calaca, Batangas on Friday morning, Oct. 13, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The 8:24 a.m. earthquake was tectonic in origin and is two kilometers deep.

Intensity V was felt in Batangas City and Lemery, Batangas, while Intensity IV was felt in Muntinlupa and in Sta. Teresita, Batangas.

Intensity III  was reported in Tagaytay; Talisay, San Jose, City of Lipa, Padre Garcia, and Laurel, Batangas.

Intensity II was reported in General Trias, Cavite; Pateros,Quezon City, Valenzuela, and Pasay in Metro Manila; Obando and Meycauayan, Bulacan; and Santa Cruz and San Pablo, Laguna; while Intensity I was felt in Pasig and Caloocan.

Damage and aftershocks are also expected.

Meanwhile, instrumental Intensity V was recorded in Lemery, Batangas; Intensity IV in Cuenca, Bauan, Sta. Teresita, and San Luis, Batangas;Tagaytay; and Muntinlupa.

Instrumental Intensity III was also recorded in Laurel and Batangas City, Batangas; Dolores, Quezon; Intensity II in Talisay and Rosario, Batangas; Magallanes, Cavite; Boac, Marinduque; Las Piñas, Pasay in Metro Manila; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Mauban, Polillo, and Gumaca, Quezon; and Taytay and Antipolo,Rizal.

Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Malvar, Batangas;  Malolos and Guiguinto, Bulacan; Ternate, Cavite; San Pablo, Laguna; Malabon, San Juan, Parañaque, Pateros in Metro Manila; Abra de Ilog and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; Lucena, Alabat, and Lucban, Quezon; Tanay, Rizal; and in Dinalupihan, Bataan.

Calaca has suspended classes in all levels for both public and private institutions.
