Davao pugs advance to PSC-Pacquiao Cup quarterfinals

DAVAO CITY — All boxers from Davao City advanced to the quarterfinals of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup Mindanao Leg that opened Saturday at the Robinsons Place in General Santos City.

“Puro kasi sila nag bye after the draw of lots today” (All of them bid goodbye after the draw of lots today), said Philippine Sports Commission technical supervisor Rogelio Fortaleza.

Seeing action in the quarterfinals on Feb. 10-11 in Kidapawan City are Emmanuel Canubas (Junior boys 44-46 kg.), Reymond Albupera (Junior boys light flyweight 48 kg.), Cyril Ivan Revilla (Junior boys 50 kg.), John Ednoel Prevendido (Youth boys light flyweight 46-49 kg.), Curt Nelgy Manigsasa (Youth boys flyweight 52 kg.), Joshua Padual (Youth boys 56 kg.) and John Alvin Gonzales (Youth boys lightweight 60 kg.).

Three bouts were held during the opening day. James Errol Gahaton of Brgy.Labangal-Gensan took on Kim Jade Sagrado in the Junior boys (44-46 kg.) division, followed by Ben John Rey Yagahon against Alvin John Sumodalayon in the Junior boys flyweight (48 kg.).

Saturday night’s fight pitted Alfred Gomez of Malungon and Jayson Brillo of Sultan Kudarat for the Junior boys flyweight (48 kg.).

Six bouts were slated Sunday featuring Ariel Almamento vs. Ferdinand Melegrito (Youth 46-49 kg.), Christian Lanutan vs. Jake Sone Saludar (46-49 kg.), Arceboy Barangan vs. Carl Joshua Rafael (52 kg.), John Ignatius Macas vs. Nino Kongkong (52 kg.), Nichole Jhon Lucas vs. Criz Sander Laurente (52 kg.) and Zaldy Recopuerto vs. Remark Brillo (56 kg.).

The winners will advance into the semifinals on March 3 in Cagayan de Oro City while the Mindanao Finals is set on March 24 in Davao City. (PNA)
