41 deaths due to ‘Urduja’ still subject to DILG checking: NDRRMC

MANILA — The 41 people feared dead due to the onslaught of tropical depression ‘Urduja’ are still being verified by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

This was bared by National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson Mina Marasigan in a briefing Tuesday.

Of the 41 reported killed, 28 are reportedly from Biliran, five from Leyte, three from Masbate, one in Eastern Samar, another one in Camarines Norte and one in Surigao Del Norte.

A total of 19 persons are reported hurt in Samar and Leyte while two are reported missing in San Fernando, Romblon.

Meanwhile, in its 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC reported that the number of “Urduja” affected families are now at 244,121 or equivalent to 1,015,817 individuals in 1,669 barangays in MIMAROPA, Regions V, VI, VII, VIII and CARAGA.

Of the above-mentioned figure, 12,682 families or around 57,691 persons are being sheltered in 381 evacuation centers while 17, 557 families or 47,791 are being aided outside.

The NDRRMC also reported that damages to national roads in Region V, VIII and XI are placed at PHP543,220,000. (PNA)
