In the wake of Tropical Depression Wilma’s onslaught in Bicol Region and Visayas, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) led the distribution of various relief items to affected families and stranded individuals.

The humanitarian aid, amounting to P7.8 million, is composed of family food packs (FFPs), ready-to-eat food (RTEF) boxes, non-food items (NFIs), and other emergency services.

In a media release Wednesday, DSWD Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Irene Dumlao reassured affected local government units (LGUs) that the agency’s field offices will continue to cooperate with them to determine and supply the needs of their affected constituents.

ASec. Dumlao said in a statement, “Ang DSWD po ay handang tumugon sa mga pangangailangan ng mga naapektuhan ni Wilma at ng mga nakaraang kalamidad. May sapat po tayong supplies.”

As of press time, a total of 4,157 families remain in evacuation centers in the wake of Wilma’s onslaught.

The agency likewise extended assistance to individuals and families stranded at ports in Bicol Region and Visayas due to the weather disturbance.
