Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday announced the appointments of two top officials of the Department’s First District Office in Bulacan.
During a meeting at the DPWH District Engineering Office (DEO) in the province, he welcomed officer-in-charge (OIC) District Engineer Kenneth Fernando and OIC Assistant District Engineer Paul Lumabas, who both came from the department’s main office in Port Area, Manila.
The DPWH head extended his support to the newly appointed and urged them to solve the long-standing flooding problem in the province.
“They are the ones we expect to be “fresh blood” that will take over here in the First District of Bulacan. With the hopes of us finding solutions to the problems that we have here. They will be working closely with our technical working group,” he said.
Dizon added that what residents need is solutions to resolve the perennial problems in Bulacan.
“People in Bulacan need solutions. Yes, they want accountability, but they also want solutions because they are suffering everyday for practically six months in a year because they are always flooded here,” Dizon said in a statement.
“This is what we will do now, with our new leadership here in the first district of Bulacan, we will give them the full support. It’s symbolic of the changes that we want to make—that the President wants to make in the DPWH,” he added.
Fernando has been part of the agency for 10 years and is part of the second batch of the DWPH Cadet Engineering Program, while Lumabas is from the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Service at the DPWH central office.
The DPWH chief advised the two new officials not to follow the things the former officials did.
“My only advice to them is not to imitate them, never imitate them. Because if you imitate what happens to them, that’s what will happen to you and I don’t think you want that to happen to you and to your families,” he said.
“Let’s do this right, let’s do it right, let’s change it. What we are doing here at the First DEO of Bulacan is what we will do everywhere,” he added.
At the same time, Dizon said that there will be a reshuffle and the placement of “fresh blood” in critical positions nationwide. (PNA)
