Amid reports of disturbances in some schools, the Department of Education (DepEd) has called on parent-teacher associations to be partners in promoting the safety of learners.

The National Parents Teachers Association or NPTA expressed support over the weekend for the call of Education Secretary Sonny Angara to help ensure the safety of public and private schools nationwide.

According to the NPTA leadership, the most effective is a whole-community intervention approach that is sustained and not just a knee-jerk reaction.

For example, the regular conduct of parenting seminars involving various education stakeholders on important topics such as strengthening authentic parent-child relationships, life skills for success, responsible digital citizenship, valuing individual differences, and bringing out the genius in every child. Using learning modalities that are fun, engaging, inspiring, and meaningful.

On Friday, the DepEd urged parent-teacher associations to be partners in advancing safety in all public schools nationwide.

This is part of the response to reports of violence that have affected learners and school personnel in different parts of the country.

In a statement, Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the need for schools to collaborate with PTAs to ensure support for learners, advance child protection, and address concerns early on.
