Comelec suspends work in Manila due to ‘Traslacion’

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that work is suspended in its central office in Manila on Tuesday in line with the feast of the Black Nazarene.

“@COMELEC no work on Tuesday, Feast of Black Nazarene, due to anticipated severe traffic situation,” Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said in her Twitter account, @commrguanzon.

On the other hand, Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez clarified that the order only covers the head office.

“In anticipation of the traffic conditions on Tuesday, the Feast of the Black Nazarene, the @COMELEC offices in @intramuros will be closed. #Nazareno2018,” he said in his Twitter account, @jabjimenez.

Millions of devotees are expected to join the procession of the Black Jesus Christ on Tuesday from the Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church.

The ‘Traslacion’ is the highlight of the annual feast.

Earlier, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada signed Executive Order No. 01 declaring suspension of classes and work in local government offices to give way to the event. (PNA)
