Nobody can dictate on Senate: Lacson

MANILA — The Senate works differently from the House and cannot be dictated, Senator Panfilo Lacson told House speaker Pantaleon Alvarez in response to the latter’s comment that the Senate is a “slow” Congress.

Lacson made this tweet hitting Alvarez for his remark and calling it “unparliamentary.”

“It is at the very least uncalled for and smacks of unparliamentary conduct,” Lacson said in a text message.

He pointed out that the Senate also acted more independently than the House of Representatives and that the Senate could not be dictated.

“The Senate works differently from the House in what we think and acts more independently as individual members,” the senator said.

“Nobody, not the senate president and even the president of the republic can dictate on us,” he added referring to Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III and President Rodrigo Duterte.

Last week, Pimentel also called Alvarez for his statement urging the house leader to prioritize quality over quantity of laws passed.

“Let us not judge lawmaking in terms of the number of laws passed but in terms of how the laws we pass improve the quality of life on earth in general and the quality of life of Filipinos in particular,” Pimentel said in his earlier text message.

Pimentel also acknowledged that there are many more bills emanating from the House because local bills originate from the House. (PNA)
