Sen. Legarda to keynote nat’l collegiate meet in Antique

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — Senator Loren Legarda will be the keynote speaker during the opening of the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) to be held in Antique on February 18-24.

In a phone conversation, Legarda on Friday agreed to the request of Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao to come home for the occasion and deliver a keynote message.

Some 6,000 to 8,000 athletes from all over the country will converge for their opening program on February 18 at the Binirayan Gymnasium here.

Delegations for the National SCUAA will start arriving on February 16, said Dr. Pablo Crespo, new president of the University of Antique (UA).

UA is the host of the competition.

“Our preparation is now intense with the event just a few weeks from now,” Crespo said during an earlier media interview.

The new president, who officially assumed the post last Monday after the retirement of former UA president Victor E Navarra, appealed to all Antiquenos to warmly welcome the delegations like during the Palarong Pambansa last year.

During the National SCUAA, the SUC student athletes will compete in 21 sports disciplinse to be held in different playing venues in Sibalom and San Jose de Buenavista.  (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
