Gov’t projects must be visible online: infra official

MANILA — Build, Build, Build Committee chairperson Ana Mae Lamentillo has reiterated the need for government projects to be visible online, as more Filipinos are expected to be online and surf the worldwide web this year.

“We predict that in 2018, 70 million Filipinos will actually be online. Government projects have to be online, too,” Lamentillo said in a speech during the National Information Convention in Davao on Monday.

Around 1,800 information officers and other people are attending the event, which runs from Feb. 19 to 21.

Lamentillo cited the country currently has 69-million internet users, who are also active in using social media accounts, while emphasizing half of searches for government projects occur online.

She said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which leads the Build, Build, Build, Committee, has partnered with private firms to launch billboards in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao to showcase the projects of the Duterte administration.

The chairperson added the DPWH has used drones and satellite technology to monitor infrastructure programs to avoid ghost projects.

The Build, Build, Build program includes projects, such as the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway Project, Mega Manila Subway, Mindanao Railway and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority Smart City Solutions. It targets to address challenges in employment, traffic, and inflation.

The projects, estimated to cost PHP8.4 trillion, are targeted to be completed from 2017-2022. (Juzel Danganan/PNA)
