ISABELA CITY, Basilan — Local folks have been challenged to utilize social media sites to promote the potentials of this province.
Secretary Myra Mangkabung of the Department of Science and Technology in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOST-ARMM) made this challenge in her keynote address on Monday, the start of the 10-day 44th Founding Anniversary celebration of this province.
Mangkabung challenged the local netizens to take a “selfie” in front of the provincial capitol and post it on social media sites to show “the Basilan of today.”
“Let the world see how Basilan is now moving on,” Mangkabung said saying social media posts would create an ambiance of peace and development.
She also urged the residents to “look into the future” and not to rely much on the government officials in developing this province.
She noted this province has changed a lot and is enjoying a relative peace.
Gov. Hadjiman Hataman-Saliman said part of the activity is the circumferential road caravan to show that this province is relatively peaceful.
Saliman said the caravan aims to correct the misconception of the people from other places about this province.
Saliman and Mangkabung led the opening of the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair that marked the start of the 10-day anniversary celebration.
Vice Gov. Yusop Alano said the trade fair showcases not only the development but to include the potentials of this province.
The celebration, dubbed as “Pakaradjaan Basilan 2018,” is anchored on the theme “sowing the seeds of peace: celebrating life, culture and prosperity.”
A press briefer about the celebration stated that this year’s theme “mirrors the current provincial government collective efforts of laying the foundation of Basilan’s sustainable future.”
“Pakaradjaan” is a Yakan term which literally means celebration. This province’s natives are known as “Yakans.” (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
