CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — The provincial government of Bulacan, in partnership with concerned government agencies, has begun to disseminate safety and fire prevention tips to Bulakenyos in time for the summer season.
Anchored on the theme, “Ligtas na Pilipinas ang Ating Hangad, Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sarili Ipatupad”, the provincial government, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) -Bulacan Rescue and Bureau of Fire Protection, formally launched the observance of Fire Prevention Month Monday.
Bulacan provincial fire marshal, Chief Insp. Amando Elevado, reminded Bulakenyos to avoid fire incidents that may wreak havoc on human lives and properties.
“To prevent fire, it is best to have a pail of water inside the house, unplug appliances when not in use or rest them for 30 minutes, focus when cooking, inspect all electrical wirings yearly, be knowledgeable on how to properly use an LPG or liquefied petroleum gas, follow all safety guidelines of the authorities in terms of fire prevention, and memorize the emergency hotlines 7910566, 4260209, and 911,” Elevado said.
“Let us remember that fire is not a natural cause. Ninety percent of fire incidents were caused by people. The safety of our properties and the lives of our loved ones are in our hands,” he added.
Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado agreed with Elevado, advising Bulakenyos to follow the reminders and be vigilant against grassfire.
Meanwhile, the PDRRMO distributed rescue tools and equipment, including a spine board, ring buoy, trauma kit sets, and splint to the rescue teams of the towns of Angat, Balagtas, Bustos, Plaridel, as well as Rescue 117 and Kabalikat Civicom.
Activities lined up by PDRRMO-Bulacan Rescue this month include basic firefighting training of the provincial fire marshals on March 6; physical fitness activities for Bulacan Rescue and partners on March 8; fire drill and fire safety inspection in the provincial hospitals on March 9; training on hazardous materials on March 13-14; stakeholders’ forum on fire safety on March 19; training on first aid; and fire drill for kiddie fire marshals on March 22.
