LAOAG CITY — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has cited the Laoag International Airport (LIA) for its green project initiatives.
The Laoag airport placed second runner-up next to Puerto Princesa and Iloilo international airports.
Among the airport’s green project initiatives include the installation of solar-powered street lights, planting of bougainvillea plants and trees from its entrance gate to the terminal building, as well as its water saving measures and proper waste disposal.
LIA Civil Aviation Manager Ronald Estabillo, in an interview Monday, said this was not the first time that the Laoag airport received the award, as it became green award champion in 2014 and the cleanest and greenest airport in 2012.
Estabillo said the Laoag airport continues to support the green airport concept and energy efficiency enhancement to reduce airport-wide carbon intensity.
The annual search aims to provide better understanding of the international aviation carbon dioxide emissions, promote enhanced cooperation between all aviation stakeholders that could positively reflect on their operational areas, and identify most relevant mitigation actions. (PNA)
