Duterte, labor groups to tackle EO vs. endo April 16

MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte and labor groups are set to meet again on April 16 regarding the proposed executive order (EO) on contractualization, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) confirmed Wednesday.

“Malacanang has scheduled the meeting with labor (groups) on April 16. Finally it is dated,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said in an interview.

With this, the DOLE chief is hoping that the President will sign the EO on contractualization on the said meeting.

“And hopefully it will be on that occasion that the president will sign our proposed Executive order on contractualization,” he said.

“This is not to prohibit contractualization but to regulate contractualization and the order went through the process and we think both the management and the labor will approve it,” Bello added.

Asked what if there are still complaints on the matter, he said, “You cannot please everybody. As long as you cite what is fair and just have to do what you believe in.”

“The last time they met, he (Duterte) said he will consult with his lawyers on the proposed EO. Maybe they will raise the same issue if it will be signed,” Bello added. (PNA)
