IMUS CITY, Cavite — The Imus Vocational and Training School (IVTS) here will soon offer three vocational training courses for fully-reformed illegal drug surrenderers as part of the city government’s drug rehabilitation plan.
Vilma Jacama, IVTS Administrator, said Wednesday that the school would initially offer tile making, carpentry and masonry training courses.
Jacama said during the sidelights of IVTS cake exhibition at the Robinson’s Imus Mall here on Wednesday that the courses were initiated by Imus Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi and as recommended by the City of Imus Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CIADAC) where IVTS is also a council member.
Both Maliksi and the city anti-drug council have negotiated with various companies for possible placement of “Tokhang graduates” of these offered courses, Jacama added.
Primary requirements include applicants must be sober and willing to undergo an everyday class for a span of at least two weeks.
Wednesday’s cake exhibit serves as a culminating activity not just for IVTS’s cake decorating students, but also for other vocational training courses’ productive endeavors.
Jacama said the various displays and showcases include those from the IVTS courses on bartending, bread and pastry, barista, cake decorating, commercial bread making, food and beverage services and meat processing.
The event also served to further promote the services of IVTS and encourage more enrollees this April.
IVTS training classes also showcased the course outputs and skills in non-food exhibits such as on beauty care, chemical and industrial products, hairdressing, massage therapy, curtain making, flower arrangement and tailoring.
The three-month training course is given for free, “except for the PHP150 registration fee” where Imuseǹos are given the first priority to enroll.
IVTS is a unit under the Office of the Mayor thru the Special Education Program of the city. This office provides technical and vocational skills trainings to out-of-school youth and unemployed adults, to give them chance to get employment or start their own businesses. (Gladys Pino/PNA)
