GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Two suspected drug pushers, one of whom was listed as a high-value target, were killed in an alleged shootout with police operatives in a village here early Friday.
Supt. Aldrin Gonzales, public information officer of Police Regional Office 12 (Soccsksargen), said Sadat Suib, 43, and Abdullah Calay, 29,were gunned down by operatives after resisting arrest during a search operation in Purok Shariff Mocsin in Barangay Baluan at about 2 a.m.
He said elements from PRO-12’s Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) simultaneously served search warrants in the area against five targets for illegal possession of firearms and violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
However, Gonzales said Suib and Calay, who were armed with handguns and long firearms, fired at the raiding team.
“The subjects resisted and with the situation, our operatives had no choice but to defend themselves,” he said in an interview over TV Patrol Soccsksargen.
The operatives rushed the suspects to a nearby hospital but were declared dead upon arrival by attending doctors.
Recovered from Suib’s residence were a Caliber 9-mm. pistol, improvised Thompson submachine gun, four fired 9-mm. slugs, and eight sachets of suspected metamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu”.
Operatives found an improvised shotgun with bullets and a fired slug, a 9-mm. pistol with fired slugs and five sachets of suspected shabu at Calay’s house.
The search at the houses of Purok Shariff Mocsin chair Omar Mamalumpong, his brother Abdul, and another resident turned out negative.
Records showed that Suib was arrested in 2016 for drug possession but was released in November last year after posting a PHP200,000 bail bond.
He surrendered to authorities under Oplan Tokhang but was included in the Top 10 drug target list of city police station No. 6.
Calay was included in the area’s drug watch list. (PNA)
