Prov’l team to assess situation in north Cebu

CEBU CITY, July 10 — The Emergency Response – Search and Rescue (ER-SAR) Team of the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CPDRRMO) is set to conduct an investigation and assessment of the situation in the northern towns of Cebu Province after an Intensity-3 aftershock rocked Cebu City and some parts of the province at around 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

Rafael Luche, ER-SAR OIC team leader, said they would be checking all northern towns of the Province starting Monday if there were damages caused by the tremor Monday morning and to likewise assess the conditions of the LGUs’ buildings if they can sustain more aftershocks.

The Philippine Insititute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS)-Cebu earlier said that more aftershocks were expected in the coming days.

“We will check every municipality in the north, especially the towns of San Remigio and Tabuelan which are nearest to the epicenter,” Luche said. “We want the LGUs in the north to be really prepared for any eventuality that may arise due to the aftershocks.”

Meanwhile, Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III is planning to give PHP 1 million each to the earthquake victims in Ormoc City and Kananga, Leyte.

Davide said they would have to check first where to get the budget so that the Provincial Board could approve the financial assistance the soonest possible time. (LBG/PNA)
