Cavite museum calls for youth participation this heritage month

KAWIT, Cavite – In celebration of the National Heritage Month this May, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) through one of its managed museums, Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo (MEA) located in this historic town, is offering a lecture-workshop on May 31.

Adhering to the nationwide commemoration theme: “Pambansang Pagkakaisa Para sa Pamana,” MEA is offering “Ang Kabataan at ang Pamanang Bayan,” which aims to impart the significance of local heritage to nation building, said Cavite Cluster Head and MEA curator Haidee Paulette Bedruz.

The activity will help bring to fore for the younger generation the knowledge and appreciation in the basic conservation and preservation of local heritage.

Featured resource speaker is Kara Garilao of the Fundacion Santiago, a non-government organization (NGO) promoting and sustaining historical awareness among Filipinos and using this sense and shared purpose as one of the foundations of national development.

MEA, likewise invited newly elected SK Chairpersons of Kawit, “in the hope that the new youth leaders will serve as stewards of heritage,” Berduz said.

Leveraging on the youth leaders’ enthusiasm and innovative approach, Bedruz is positive that the youth can easily carry out the mission, “that is to impart to others the importance of preserving our existing heritage”.

The month of May every year is National Heritage Month, in accordance with Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003.

The annual celebration aims to create continuing consciousness, respect and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history, as well as solicit support for heritage protection. (PNA)
