Army vice chief joins ‘Brigada Eskwela’ in Malabon

MANILA — In line with its community development and engagement efforts, Philippine Army (PA) vice commander Major Gen. Robert M. Arevalo took part in “Brigada Eskwela” activities of the Malabon National High School (MNHS) on Tuesday.

Joining the PA official were around 736 volunteers composed of MNHS faculty members and staff, representatives from the local government unit, police and other uniformed services.

Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva said this year’s “Brigada Eskwela” theme is “Para sa Handa, Ligtas at Matatag na Paaralan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan.”

“Brigada Eskwela” is an annual activity of the Department of Education where parents, teachers, community members and other stakeholders come together to prepare public school facilities nationwide before the opening of the academic year.

Participants normally do minor repairs, painting, and cleaning of school premises.

Villanueva said that the PA is deploying 350 personnel to help in the cleaning and repairs of some 36 schools in Mandaluyong, Pateros, Pasay, and Taguig. “Brigada Eskwela” is a week-long activity that started Monday and will end on Friday. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
