NoCot farmer kills wife, ‘lover’ in fit of rage

MATALAM, North Cotabato–A jealous husband was killed in a shootout with responding cops Tuesday morning after killing his wife and another woman, while wounding two others, in Barangay Poblacion here, police said.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, North Cotabato provincial police spokesman, said Danilo Belgira arrived around 6 a.m. in their home only to find his wife, Evelyn, sleeping beside Miraluna Brigole, reportedly a lesbian.

Blinded by rage and jealousy, Belgira confronted his wife and pulled out his .45-caliber pistol, shooting his wife and her alleged lover at close range. Both died on the spot, police said.

Relatives of Belgira, identified as Eduardo Dela Torre and Vivien Banes, both rushed to the scene but they too were shot and injured.

Responding policemen tried to convince Belgira to surrender but the latter instead traded shot with the lawmen that resulted to his death.

“It was jealousy that prompted the suspect to shoot his wife and alleged lover,” Tayong said.

Police said they are still trying to determine how Belgira, a farmer, got his weapon.

The town of Matalam is an hour-and-a-half drive from Cotabato City and some 30-minute drive from Kidapawan, the capital city of North Cotabato province. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
