Lucena mayor to constituents: Be a Filipino hero anywhere

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — “Nasaang panig ka man ng mundo, alalahanin mong ikaw ay bayaning Pilipino (Wherever you are in this world, always remember that you are a Filipino hero).”

With these words, Lucena City Mayor Roderick Alcala sought to inspire his constituents during the celebration of the 120th Independence Day at the open parking area of a mall here Tuesday.

Alcala called on all Lucenahins not to forget their forefathers’ heroic deeds.

He made special mention of the millennials, who are prone to modern technology and are not acquainted with “our heroes’ history”.

“We should protect our independence as a sign of gratitude to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for us to enjoy our freedom,” the mayor added.

Various sectors joined the activity, among them the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, heads of government agencies, Quezon Vice Governor Samuel Nantes with Provincial Board Members Ferdinand Talabong and Beth Sio, Quezon public information officer Janet Buelo, Quezon Police Director Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, Southern Luzon Command commander Lt. Gen. Danilo Pamonag, and mall employees. (Belinda M. Otordoz/PNA)
