Lightning kills 2, injures 1 in Sibugay town

ZAMBOANGA CITY–Two people were killed while another was critically injured in a lightning strike in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Friday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, said the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Barangay Bulawan, Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez identified the fatalities as Ranilo Navarro Sr., 49, and Michael Castillo, 27, both farmers.

Critically wounded was Eric Dela Cruz, 22, who was admitted in a hospital in the town of Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez said investigation showed that before the incident, the victims were working in a ricefield and decided to take shelter in a hut due to heavy downpour.

She said a lightning suddenly hit the hut that resulted to the death of Navarro and Castillo, while Dela Cruz was critically wounded. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
