Dengue alert up in Ilocos Norte town village

LAOAG CITY — Local officials and health personnel of the municipality of Solsona are closely monitoring at least 16 children suspected of contracting the dengue virus in the small village of Mariquet.

Town mayor Alexander Calucag confirmed this on Saturday, as a seven-year-old kid died of dengue in Solsona last week.

Calucag lamented that for several years, Solsona town, a Hall of Fame awardee in the search for cleanest and greenest municipality, has a new casualty of dengue.

Based on the initial report of the municipal health office, old tires were the possible breeding sites of dengue-carrying mosquitoes in the area.

Calucag, thus, advised residents to continue with the regular cleanup of their households and surroundings.

“When you are suffering from fever and other symptoms of dengue, immediately seek treatment at the nearest health center,” Caluag said, adding the municipality has enough funds to prevent dengue.

Dengue symptoms include severe headache, joint, muscle, and abdominal pain, fatigue, vomiting, and skin rashes.

With the onset of rainy season, the provincial health office has reminded residents to be vigilant and to observe the “4S Kontra sa dengue” campaign, which means: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, self-protection, seek early consultation, and say yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
