CBCP denies destabilization plot vs. gov’t

MANILA — The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Thursday refuted allegations of plotting to destabilize the Duterte administration.

“That’s not true, definitely that’s not true. Definitely there’s no such thing. It is just a fabrication. Wherever it came from, it cannot come from the Church,” CBCP Public Affairs Committee chairman, Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista, said in an interview after a meeting with officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP), headed by its chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde, at the CBCP Conference Room in Manila on Thursday morning.

Such statements will not come from the Church as it is pushing for peace, Evangelista said.

“Such will not come from the Church. I can assure you of that. It is not for us to make the situation chaotic as it is already. We are all for peace, peace-loving people as nation,” the Imus, Cavite prelate added.

Earlier, Pastor “Boy” Saycon said they are not discounting the possibility that the Catholic Church may be used to destabilize the government.

He was referring to radical members of the Catholic Church who may be used by some organizations that are plotting such schemes.

Saycon is a member of the three-man Malacañang team formed to have a dialogue with religious groups. (PNA)
