Malacañang vows full probe into Nueva Ecija mayor slay

MANILA — Malacañang vowed to get to the bottom of killings of mayors following reports that Mayor Ferdinand Bote of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija was shot dead on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports showed that Bote was shot multiple times while inside his Toyota Fortuner in Cabanatuan City. This comes a day after Tanauan City, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili was killed.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde has vowed to bring perpetrators to justice.

“We are confident that PNP Chief, Director-General Oscar Albayalde, would be able to conduct a fair and thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Roque said in a press statement.

Roque also said that all murders of mayors will be the government’s obligation.

“We assure everyone that we would discharge the state obligation for every murder. We will spare no effort in getting to the bottom of this latest violent crime,” he added.

He also expressed sympathies to the bereaved family of Bote.

“Our deep condolences go to the bereaved family of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Mayor Ferdinand Bote,” Roque said. (Azer Parrocha/PNA)
