DILG bars 17 Zambo SK officials from assuming posts

ZAMBOANGA CITY–The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said 17 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials here will not be allowed to assume their posts for failure to comply with necessary requirements.

Isidro Cillio Jr., operations chief of DILG-Zamboanga, on Tuesday said the SK officials, who are all councilors, failed to undergo the SK mandatory training last month.

Cillio said that 13 of them are from the barangays of Arena Blanco, Curuan, Landang Gua, Lapakan, Mariki, Pangapuyan, Quiniput, Sibulao, Tagasilay, Tumalutab, and Zone 1. Two of them are from Rio Hondo and the remaining two are from Tigtabon.

“They did not attend (the training), therefore they will not be allowed to assume office,” Cillio said.

He said the mandatory training is pursuant to a joint circular from the DILG, National Youth Commission, and Commission on Election.

He said the first training was conducted earlier last month and a special training was held on Friday, June 29, to give opportunity to those who failed to attend the first training.

Cillio said they have reached out to the SK officials but received no response.

He said they are awaiting instructions from the DILG central office on whether or not to declare the positions vacant.

Each barangay must have one SK chairperson and seven councilors (kagawads). (R. G. Antonet Go/PNA)
