ZAMBOANGA CITY–Residents who have reached the voting age are advised to register early with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to avoid the rush.
Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, made the call on Friday as the agency embarks on another voters’ registration in preparation for the 2019 mid-term elections. The registration of new voters started on Monday, July 2, and is set to end on September 29.
Cañete said a daily average of 190 individuals visit the local Comelec office to register and update their records with the agency.
He said the record update included transfer of registration, correction of entry on registration record, and reactivation of registration record.
He advised those who wish to register to bring with them proof of identity, such as identification cards and birth certificate authenticated by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
He said the registration of voters is being held at the Comelec office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, including holidays. Satellite registration is also being scheduled in the barangays.
The conduct of registration of new voters is pursuant to Republic Act 8189 and Comelec Resolution 10392 dated June 19, 2018. (R. G. Antonet Go/PNA)
