Search for 2 men swept by strong river current continues

BACOLOD CITY — Rescue units in two cities in southern Negros have continued the search for the two people, who went missing in flooded rivers on Sunday.

In Bago City, 25-year-old RJ Estilo has been reported missing after he was swept by strong current while conducting shallow fishing near an overflow in Purok Kabatuhan, Barangay Tabunan.

Continued rains hampered rescue efforts in the past two days, and as of Tuesday noon, the City Disaster Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) posted photos on their Facebook account showing they are still searching for Estilo.

Estilo, a vegetable vendor and a father of two, went fishing with four companions.

On Monday, the missing person’s family was informed that a man, resembling Estilo’s, was found in Sum-ag River in Bacolod. Rescue personnel checked the area but the report turned out to be negative.

In Kabankalan City, CDRRMO personnel also continue their search for 56-year-old Eduardo Amparado, who went missing at Ilog River around 7 p.m.

Amparado, a resident of Barangay Tan-awan, was also swept by strong current while crossing the river with four others.

As of noon Tuesday, the search operation still yielded negative result, said dispatch duty staff Robert Lisas. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
