Change in Lower House leadership may be due to budget: Sen. Villar

DUMAGUETE CITY – Senator Cynthia Villar said the Lower House row over the change of leadership may have something to do with the budget for congressmen.

Sen. Villar was guest of Mayor Reynaldo Concepcion of Tanjay City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday, where she attended the Sinulog de Tanjay City street dancing and mock dance competition a day ahead of that city’s fiesta celebration.

According to Villar, others have a budget while others do not have any, referring to the congressional representatives.

Villar said being elected by the people, they need projects that will benefit their respective constituencies.

“It is not the congressmen that need the budget but it is the people in their respective districts,” she pointed out.

“I am a former congresswoman in my district, but during our time, the minority had a budget for projects. Pilipino din sila (they are still Filipinos), they should benefit from the taxes collected from the people,” she added.

Another reason for the change in leadership may be the “No-El” or no election proposal, according to the senator.

“No matter how bad, we have to have an election kasi parang nagkakaroon ng instability kapag walang election (it would look like there is instability if there is no election). Iyun seguro ang isa sa mga reasons (that could be one of the reasons),” Villar said of the controversy in the Lower House. (Juancho Gallarde/PNA)
