Curfew violator yields shabu in Cotabato City

COTABATO CITY — Authorities nabbed a female curfew violator here, who yielded a sachet of “shabu” in her wallet before dawn Wednesday.

Senior Supt. Rolly Octavio, city police director, identified the arrested suspect as Princess Lumina Tayuan, 29, of Barangay Rosary Heights 5, this city.

Members of the local government’s “Ronda” patrol team chanced upon Tatuan walking along Sinsuat Avenue, the city’s main thoroughfare, around 2 a.m. and was uneasy when approached, Octavio said.

“When her personal belongings were checked, the suspect’s wallet yielded a plastic sachet containing the shabu,” he said, adding the illegal substance has an estimated PHP5,000 street value.

Tatuan was brought to the city police headquarters, where she is now detained. She has been charged with violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and the curfew ordinance — which prohibits loitering between 10:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.

The local curfew ordinance was implemented following President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to place the entire island of Mindanao under martial law, in a bid to quell terrorism and other forms of lawlessness brought about by the May 23-Oct. 23, 2017 Marawi siege by the Islamic State-aligned Maute and Abu Sayyaf groups. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
