Enhanced southwest monsoon affecting Luzon Friday

MANILA—Southwest monsoon enhanced by severe tropical storm with international name “Soulik” and TS “Rumbia” continues to affect Luzon, dumping light to heavy rain in some parts of the country.

As of 4 a.m. Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geographical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 24-hour forecast that Soulik was estimated to be 2,060 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon with maximum winds of 90 kph, gustiness of 115 kph and moving north at 30 kph.

Rumbia is 1,150 kms. north northeast of extreme northern Luzon with gusts of 130 kph and moving west northwest at 20 kph.

Both Soulik and Rumbia are outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The weather bureau said Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Cavite and Batangas will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The affected areas are warned of possible floods or landslides due to sudden bursts of heavy rains or thunderstorms.

Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 26-31 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City 25-34 degrees Celsius; Baguio City 16-19 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu 26-32 degrees Celsius, and Metro Davao 26-32 degrees Celsius. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
