PASAY CITY — Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said the country’s workers will soon get added protection once President Rodrigo Duterte signs the Occupational Safety Health Bill (OSHB) into law.
In a media interview during the 6th Regional Competitiveness Summit last Thursday, Go said the President will sign the OSHB any time this week.
“Itong Occupational Safety Health Bill ay lalagdaan ng ating Pangulo soon, any time siguro this week (The Occupational Safety Health Bill will be signed by our President soon, perhaps any time this week),” he said.
Go said the OSHB will serve as a protection for workers since it seeks to strengthen compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Campaign standards .
Under the bill, employers are jointly liable with the project owner, contractor, subcontractor, and any person who controls or supervises the work done, in case of death or injury in the workplace.
“Ito po ay proteksyon sa mga workers, sa mga workplace po, para i-make sure ng employer na safe po ang lugar na pinagtatrabahuan, at magiging liable po ang employer kung may mangyayari po (This will protect our workers by making sure that employers keep the workplace safe. The employers will be made liable for anything that happens to the workers),” he added. (PR/PNA)
