Lakas-CMD eyes alliance with Mayor Sara’s Hugpong

MANILA — The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) is looking at forging an alliance with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) regional party, Deputy Speaker Prospero Pichay bared on Monday.

Pichay, senior vice president of Lakas, said forming a coalition with the HNP is a direction that they would “definitely” pursue.

“If we have the chance, why not? We’ll pursue that direction definitely,” Pichay said in a press conference.

Pichay noted that Lakas-CMD still has the capacity to beef up its forces given its history.

“Lakas is an old party, so we’ll try to recruit more members both from national and local officials and let’s see what’s going to happen,” he said.

Several local and national political parties have allied with HNP regional party.

Signing an alliance agreement with HNP at the Blue Leaf Filipinas in Parañaque City last week were Nationalist People’s Coalition Secretary-General Mark Llandro Mendoza; National Unity Party Secretary General Reginald Velasco; Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco for the Alyansa Bol-anon Alang sa Kausaban; Zamboanga Rep. Seth Frederick Jalosjos for the Aggrupation Party for Progress; Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos for Ilocano Timpuyog -Ilocos Norte Nationalista Party; Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda for Kambilan; Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vicente Emano for Padayon Pilipino; and Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte for Serbisyo sa Bayan Party. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)
