MANILA — Water supply concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has expanded its distribution network, as a total of 28,641 new service accounts were added to its water supply system in the first half of 2018 alone.
Based on a statement released Saturday, the new Maynilad connections were mostly in Bacoor City (Mambog and Molino), Imus City (Malagasang and Pasong Buaya), Caloocan City (Camarin, Deparo, and Tala), and Valenzuela City (Bignay, Karuhatan, and Ugong).
The utility firm said it now has water service connections to 1,386,504, after connecting 753,206 service accounts or over 5.2 million customers since the company’s re-privatization in 2007.
“With its increased service connections, Maynilad now provides potable water to more than 9.5 million people—an increase of 55 percent from the 6.1 million customers it served 11 years ago,” the company’s statement said.
Around 98 percent of Maynilad customers have 24-hour water supply—up from only 32 percent in 2006, it continued.
Maynilad said all of its customers get their water at the average pressure of 7 pounds per square inch (psi), which allows the water to reach the second floor of a building without the aid of a booster pump.
“Having access to potable water should be the least of our customers’ concerns. Hence, we continue to lay the pipelines that will enable us to connect the most far-flung areas in our concession where people still rely on deep wells or expensive water deliveries from vendors,” Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito S. Fernandez said.
For 2018, Maynilad has earmarked more than PHP9 billion for capital expenditure projects, of which PHP6.6 billion will be for water infrastructure investments. These include service expansion programs, such as the laying of new pipelines that will connect still-unserved areas to Maynilad’s distribution network.
The firm has the biggest customer base among private water concessionaires in the country. It is the agent and contractor of the state-owned Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for the West Zone of Greater Manila Area.
Maynilad supplies water to certain portions of Manila, Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon for Metro Manila. It also covers the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario in Cavite Province. (PR/PNA)
