No extension of COC filing for Marawi village polls

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday said there will be no extension of the period of filing for Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for those who would like to participate in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in Marawi City next month.

“The latest word is there will be no extension,” said Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez in an interview.

The poll body official noted that they did not receive any request to extend the eight-day filing period.

“No requests have been made so far anyway and there appears to be no need,” Jimenez added.

With this, he reminded village and youth polls aspirants that they only have until Aug. 30 to file their COCs.

Last Aug. 23, the Comelec started accepting COCs for those looking at joining the Barangay and SK polls in Marawi City on September 22.

The campaign period for the elections will be from September 12 to September 20.

One barangay chairman and seven barangay kagawads, as well as one SK chairman and seven SK kagawads, are to be elected in the scheduled polls. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
