MILF man killed, 2 others nabbed in Cotabato City anti-drug ops

COTABATO CITY — A member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) was killed when he resisted arrest while two other drug peddlers were nabbed during separate anti-drug operations here Sunday, police said.

Chief Insp. Tirso Pascual, city police station 4 commander, said suspect Reny Guilal Ukad, 43, of Barangay Montay, Datu Piang, Maguindanao, traded shots with police officers, triggering a shootout in Barangay Bagua at 3 p.m., following a drug buy-bust operation.

When the smoke cleared, Pascual said police rushed the badly injured Ukad to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Pascual said Ukad was a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) based on identification cards recovered from his body, adding that the suspect also worked for a drug syndicate operating in Datu Piang, Datu Saudi, Talayan and Datu Odin Sinsuat towns in Maguindanao.

Seized from Ukad were two huge sachets of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth), a .38-caliber revolver with ammunition, mobile phones, and a motorbike.

An hour later, Pascual said police also arrested two men inside Violtan Lodging House along Bonifacio Street after they handed over a sachet of shabu to a police undercover agent.

Confiscated from Albert Tan, 35, of Cotabato City and Munjahid Guiamel, 37, of Maguindanao were four sachets of shabu (crystal meth), drug paraphernalia and marked money. (Edwin Fernandez and Noel Punzalan/PNA)
