Senate remains hopeful on passage of free education in SUCs

The Senate was determined to pass into law the free college education in state universities and colleges (SUCs), as well as in local colleges this school year.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, who was with the president at the Palace meeting, kept on hoping that President Duterte would approve the proposed Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

However, Drilon admitted that lack of fund was the primary reason why the proposed law for free college education in state universities and colleges remained unapproved.

Drilon, nontheless, was hopeful that the proposed law will be successfully established as long as the implementation will undergo in a step by step process.

The proposed law is expected to be passed on August 05, with or without the signature of President Duterte, except on the instance of facing a presidential veto. | Renzie Nombre (OJT) PTV
