Probers of Davao lawyer’s slay try eye persons of interest

DAVAO CITY – The Special Investigation Task Group (SITG)-Donasco here is tracking down persons of interest in the attempted murder of lawyer Wilmer Donasco on September 26 in front of the Benigno Aquino Hall of Justice on Candelaria Street, Ecoland here.

Police Supt. Ireneo Caburnay, SITG-Donasco head, however, begged off to divulge details of the possible perpetrators pending further investigation and processing of the evidence.

“Atty. Wilmer Donasco is the only one who can name the possible perpetrator who has the motive to kill him,” Caburnay said.

Caburnay said investigator already interviewed Donasco to get information that will help in the ongoing investigation.

“The name of the perpetrator was mentioned and we are focusing on this,” he added.

The task force, Caburnay said, is gathering more evidence as the Regional Crime Laboratory has identified the firearm used in the slay attempt based on the slugs recovered inside the vehicle.

Caburnay said the images in CCTV camera footage were blurred due to low-quality equipment.

He said the suspect was seen in the footage took off his helmet and fired a gun. The gunman then fled towards Quimpo Boulevard.

Donasco, 44, was shot by motorcycle-riding gunman while he was parking his pickup truck in front of the Hall of Justice. He only sustained minor injuries caused by the vehicle’s shattered left side window.

Probers are also looking into all possible angles in the case.
