TAGBILARAN CITY — Senator Cynthia Villar on Tuesday urged Boholanos to venture into farm tourism to boost their productivity and become competitive in the market.

Villar, who chairs the Senate’s committee on agriculture, was the keynote speaker at the Livestock Technology Expo at the Bohol Cultural Center here.

Bohol also hosted the National Carabao Conference and the 4th Bohol Milk Festival simultaneously, where several booths featured food and dairy products.

Villar exhorted every province in the country to exert extra effort to improve their dairy industry, since only 2 percent of the demand for dairy is being supplied by local producers.

She noted that most of the country’s dairy products are imported, while the children’s dairy needs are not adequately met.

The high prices of imported dairy products make it difficult for Filipino children to get proper nutrition coming from milk, the senator added.

Bohol has been aiming to become the dairy capital of the Philippines. (Dave Albarado/PNA)
