Alaska claims QF bonus with win over NorthPort

MANILA — Alaska became the second team to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Governors’ Cup after defeating also-ran NorthPort, 95-85, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Sunday night.

The Aces made a late blitz to pull away from the Batang Pier.

After letting NorthPort score 32 points in the second quarter, Alaska limited its opponent to just 15 in the third and took a 64-62 lead entering the fourth.

After going toe-to-toe in the first seven minutes of the fourth, the Aces went on a 14-0 run to pull away for good.

Mike Harris collected 27 points, 25 rebounds, five assists, and one block for the now 8-3 Alaska, whose final ranking will depend on the remaining games of the eliminations.

Rashad Woods made 33 markers, 13 boards, and two dimes for NorthPort, which ended its campaign at 2-9. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
