Typhoon “Rosita” submerges 2 schools in Kalinga

TABUK, Kalinga — Two schools in Tanudan town in this province have been submerged in water after the nearby Tanudan River swelled due to heavy downpour brought about by Typhoon “Rosita” (international name Yutu).

At past 11 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 30), school buildings at the Dacalan Elementary School went under water, as the nearby river rose.

Residents then started to move out classroom chairs and other school equipment to save these from being washed away in the deluge.

At about 2 p.m., the Lubo Elementary School, also in Tanudan, was also submerged.

Residents near the schools had been evacuated by authorities on Monday, as a precautionary measure against the impending onslaught of Typhoon Rosita.

“Rosita” started to batter Kalinga province past midnight of Monday with strong winds.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2 has been raised over the province of Kalinga since Monday (Oct. 29). Classes have also been suspended on the same day.
