Undas 2018 security plan in Western VIsayas still in effect

ILOILO CITY — The security plan of Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) for Undas 2018 is still in effect as of Friday in consideration of the long weekend.

In an interview on Friday, PRO-6 Director, Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, said the observance of All Saints’ Day was generally peaceful with no major incident reported.

Bulalacao said the public took advantage of the long weekend to spend vacation in various tourist destinations in the region, particularly on Boracay Island which reopened last October 26.

“We have designated security supervisors from the regional headquarters to clustered municipalities of each province to ensure that security measures are in place,” he said as the security plan calls for police visibility.

Bulalacao said some 5,000 police personnel were deployed across the region, particularly in areas of convergence, to augment police units.

Police assistance desks were established in cemeteries and churches to secure the areas and provide immediate response to the public if needed.

Police personnel have confiscated about 95 harmful objects so far with the conduct of inspections at the entrance of some cemeteries, especially those in Iloilo and Bacolod City.

Meanwhile, Bulalacao acknowledged the cooperation of community members, the help of all force multipliers, such as barangay tanod members and members of non-government organizations, for contributing to the maintenance of the peace and order here.

“We remain on top of the situation and we wish everyone enjoyable days ahead,” he said. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
