3 Pangasinan hospitals get P2.8-M cash grant from DOH

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Three provincial government-run hospitals in Pangasinan received a total of PHP2.78 million from the Department of Health (DOH) under the Medical Assistance for Indigent Patient (MAIP) program.

Fourth District board member Jeremy Agerico Rosario said the amount will be a big help to indigent patients and to hospitals, as well as in maintaining their operations.

“On top of the benefits from the Philippine Health Insurance, some patients still need to pay excess amount if their hospital bill reached the maximum required depending on their case rates, hence, the MAIP is necessary for those who really cannot pay their bill,” Rosario said in an interview Wednesday.

MAIP program provides financial support for indigent patients seeking medical examination, consultation, treatment and rehabilitation, and those confined in government hospitals, he added.

The three beneficiaries are Pangasinan Provincial Hospital with PHP800,00; Umingan Community Hospital, PHP990,000; and Asingan Community Hospital, PHP990,000.

Rosario said Sangguniang Panlalawigan members have already approved Provincial Resolution No. 1978-2018, which he authored, that authorizes Governor Amado Espino, III to sign a memorandum of agreement with the DOH on the said program.

“The resolution is necessary to download the cash grant from DOH to the respective hospital,” he said.

Rosario said the provincial government hospitals are regular recipients of the MAIP program.

Pangasinan has 14 hospitals being run by the provincial government.
