MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte has approved laws renewing the franchise of Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) and two other firms.

Duterte signed Republic Act 11109 on Oct. 30, giving MBC another 25-years to construct, install, operate and maintain radio and television broadcasting stations within the country.

MBC, owned by the Elizalde family, operates the country’s oldest radio station, dzRH, and Love Radio, its radio and FM flagship stations.

Duterte also signed RA Nos. 11110 and 11111 on Oct. 30, extending for another 25 years the franchises of Bright Star Broadcasting Network Corporation and Vanguard Radio Network Company, Inc., respectively.

Bright Star, which started operations in 1992, operates FM station 105.9.

On the other hand, Vanguard owns broadcast stations including FM 95.9 in Nueva Ecija, Baguio City, La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan, and Bohol.
