LEGAZPI CITY — The city administration here will soon start a program to strengthen emergency response to the public in need of immediate help.

In a phone interview Thursday, Mayor Noel E. Rosal told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that his administration will launch on Jan. 2, 2019 the Emergency and Response Center (ERC) using telephone numbers 9-1-1.

He said the old building of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has been rehabilitated to be used for the ERC, which will have its own modern equipment including an ambulance and surveillance cameras to be installed in various parts of the city to monitor incidents.

The ERC will be inter-connected with other agencies and will be manned by personnel from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection and City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office as well as the city’s public safety officers, and other well-trained people in responding to various incidents such as road accidents, urban search and rescue operation, fire, medical emergency and even criminality, Rosal said.

He added that the ambulance will be manned by experienced operators and medical technicians on a 24/7 shift schedule basis

All city residents needing emergency assistance could easily dial the hotline number 9-1-1 for immediate response, the mayor said.
