BALER, Aurora — The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Aurora Chapter, is conducting a four-day training on standard first aid with cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) to ensure the health and safety of residents here.
PDRRMO officer-in-charge, Leandro M. Dungca Jr., said in an interview on Wednesday the participants in the training that kicked off Monday are personnel of PDRRMO, Baler Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Aurora Memorial Hospital (AMH) and other volunteers.
“PDRRMO responders are being trained to strengthen their capabilities in rescuing people in the event of an emergency. They should be trained very well in response measures appropriate to a particular place in specific vulnerabilities and identified risks,” Dungca said.
He said the rapid mobilization and proficiency of the responders’ actions, as well as response procedure familiarity, are necessary to minimize potential chaos, scenario consequences, and plausible chain-reaction events.
He added that having a well-rehearsed emergency plan enables efficient and effective response coordination, reduces losses of lives, and limits the impact on victims.
PDRRMO Operations and Warning head John Ryan G. Querijero underscored the importance of the training to save lives.
“The participants should put in their minds and hearts the importance of the training since basic life support consists of a number of medical procedures provided to patients with life-threatening conditions of the body that cause pain or dysfunction to the person,” Querijero said.
He added that understanding and practicing techniques are the most challenging tasks confronting first-aid and basic life support.
During the seminar, personnel from the PRC-Aurora Chapter lectured about first aid and basic life support, medical emergencies, and emergency preparedness. They also conducted demonstrations on rescue breathing, bandaging technique, and lifting and moving.
PRC-Aurora chapter training handbooks were given to the participants at the start of the training.
On the last day of the training, the participants’ skills on basic life support and bandaging techniques and lifting/moving will be evaluated.
Certificates, membership accident assistance benefits for one year, and identification cards will be given to the participants upon completion of the training.
