LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Pangasinan remains on full alert status since Dec. 23 until Jan. 1, 2019 to respond to any untoward incident during the holidays.

Supt. Eddie Jucutan, provincial director of BFP-Pangasinan, said on Thursday that 474 active personnel are on-duty, conducting inspections in firecracker zones and responding to incidents since Christmas up until the New Year revelry.

“They are going around checking the designated firecracker zones in their respective area of jurisdiction, whether the place is safe as a firecracker zone. They are also sharing tips to the seller and customers of firecrackers,” he said.

Jucutan reiterated that cigarette smoking and testing are not allowed within the firecracker selling area to ensure the safety of the vendors and customers.

“We are hoping that like last year, there will be no fire incidents caused by firecracker in the holidays this year,” he noted.

Jucutan further said that a total of 65 fire trucks of BFP Pangasinan are also prepared in case there will be a need to respond to emergencies.

Insp. Richard Santillan, information officer of BFP-Pangasinan, advised the public to refrain from using firecrackers.

“We can enjoy celebrating the New Year with other means and if they insist on using firecrackers, they should use only the approved ones and they should use it with caution to avoid accidents,” he said.
