DAVAO CITY — The chief of the Police Regional Office 11 (Davao Region) has called on all hotels and business establishments in the region to strengthen their security measures and remain proactive to give travelers peace of mind.
Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, PRO-11 director, emphasized the importance of proactive security measures in areas of public convergence to predict, prevent and prepare for any untoward incident.
Morales noted that hotels are considered as second home by travelers, thus they “must be comfortable and secure.”
“Without that feeling of security and comfort, hospitality providers fail,” he said Friday.
On Thursday, PRO-11 organized a whole-day summit for hotel operators and managers to revisit and update them on security management.
“Hotel guests are the ultimate objective of the security providers, making sure patrons are free from any threats,” Morales said.
He, however, said local hotels, resorts and other hospitality establishments have complied with the safety requirements of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
During the summit, Morales said stakeholders agreed to allow the PNP to conduct a quarterly inspection and dialogue to strengthen the cooperation and coordination between the PNP and their security personnel.
This way, he said, “issues or problems that may arise will be corrected by both parties.”
Thursday’s summit included threat assessment, regional peace and order situation, and the crime and security environment in the Davao region.
Morales said they also tackled the framework for security protocols during special events or season.
“There was also a thorough presentation on bomb threats, bomb jokes, and a full discussion on procedures and strategies for evacuation, explosions, and threat confirmation,” he said.
