DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) took in more than a hundred new recruits that will serve as additional force in its anti-criminality drive.

Police Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum, in an interview on Monday, said the infusion of additional police officers has increased the DCPO’s strength to more than 2,000 personnel.

“They are the new graduates of PRO (Police Regional Office) 11. This is the biggest number that is downloaded to DCPO primarily because of the request of the City Peace and Order Council during the last meeting,” Tagum said.

Tagum said the additional personnel will be distributed to the 12 police precincts, traffic, and the mobile patrol group.

Meanwhile, he said the planned expansion of the DCPO into a police district is still under study by the National Police Commission (Napolcom).

“The proposal is being studied but according to our contacts, it is favorable to Napolocm. Its approval would be appropriate because the biggest city in Mindanao can now be elevated to a district office, ” he added.

Tagum said the expansion may take place two years from now.
